There are times when we must choose to appreciate the win of the moment. Although rarely enjoyed in adulthood, ignoring the next to-do list item and turning a blind eye to glaring flaws and blemishes is necessary in order to bask in the simple, glorious present.
I am not sure what we expected to see when we pulled into the laneway, but our united and spirit-inspired “Holy Shit!” captured rarely experienced astonishment.
Dave immediately crawled underneath, inviting a blackfly storm to belly up to the fresh blood bar. Another swarm nestled cozily behind my ears and in my hairline. Neither of us cared. We could not believe the transformation. Seeing the cabin actually elevated off the dirt was worth the blood loss and subsequent infected bites enjoyed by Dave.
We were surprised the job went as well as it did, especially with the amount of rot and neglect that lay below. Angelo the Mighty Resurrector agreed. He looked a tad tired and smiled weakly when we presented him with a sac of cold, locally crafted beers. I think we should have brought something stronger.
Angelo has been added to our growing arsenal of skilled angels placed along our path. After all, it takes a team to raise a cabin.
Relish Ain’t Just for Burgers
Until the shriek of the next project gets our attention, we will relish the raising our our beloved Phoenix. The poor guy desperately needed a new nest. Finally, ours is starting to take shape.
Friends, wherever your long weekend takes you, may you enjoy a similar moment of pause. Whether in the backyard enjoying the glory of green and the delicious scent of blossoms, sitting by a beckoning body of water, or rocking leisurely on your porch, revel in the perfection of the present.
Karma Cabin Lesson #11: Relish the present moment. Enjoy the wins. Remember that waking up in the morning is a cause for celebration.
The change is truly unbelievable!! Thank god for people like Angelo! Screw the others!
He truly was a godsend – amazing work ethic too!
It looks beautiful to me! I understand the joy to be found in something LEVEL. Enjoy.
Ahh, level…yes, such a nice state to find. It is to be savoured, isn’t it. Thank you for also seeing the beauty, Arlene.
Truly glorious! A job well done and your ability to make your vision come true…sheer joy! Enjoy the fruits of your labor, rest, relax and enjoy!
Good advice, Franca – this project constantly reminds me that I need to enjoy the small victories, so we will gaze lovingly at our new joists this weekend!
Wow, it looks like a new place. Nothing like a lift to lift your spirits. I am sure both Stella and Bert approve. Thank you for your closing sentiment. As we hurry to our next task or accomplishment, we may sometimes forget to pause and revel in the now.
So true, Carla – we have a lot to celebrate in the Now. Long weekends are a nice time to reflect on that!
How absolutely wonderful! Relax and now enjoy the results of this accomplishment.
The cabin now stands proudly thanks to your vision and the efforts of your local crew.
🍾🥂
We lucked out with Angelo and his small crew. That was backbreaking work completed with pride.
